Mouth Guards

I think this is national facial protection month. At least it seems that I have read that in the dental news. I have always been a big believer in mouthguards. This past Sunday afternoon, I was here in the office stabilizing teeth for a basketball player with some lose lower incisors. I don't  think he will lose those teeth, but he may need root canal treatment for them in the future. I seem to see lots of basketball injuries and am firmly convinced that I hate that game. Seriously though, basketball is far from a contact free sport. I will always do anything I can to save teeth in the event of an accident, but protect teeth as much as possible with a good mouthguard.

Bib Clips

Just in from Tufts Dental School: Bib Clips Harbor Bacteria

There are some days when you wish the war against bugs would get easier... I am glad we got rid of those chains that hold the protective bibs we use years ago. Too bad we haven't gotten rid of the messes we sometimes make that require clothing protection. New technology that allows us to scan teeth instead of taking impressions for everything is nearly affordable enough to use every day. But the scanners can't really be sterilized... so maybe we are back to disposable impression trays and stick on protective bibs. We are happy to offer you a hot, single use, cotton towel to clean up with though!

Sterilization

Usually when I think about spring, I am thinking about the transition from snow sports to windsurfing with a little pottery on the side. Well, that and getting my taxes done. Lately, the news for dentistry has been distracting with problems associated with infectious disease and poor sterilization  in an oral surgeons office in Oklahoma. Tragic and so preventable. Our office has always used the best sterilization protocols and we tested our sterilizers years before it was required. We treat our children and our family members here and we take the same care and precautions for you.

Auction Season

Once again I will be donating treatment at my office to the auctions at Holy Rosary and St. Lukes. If you think it is time for your family to bid on braces, please call for a complimentary exam.

Ski Season

I have enjoyed seeing so many patients up at Stevens Pass this season! Just last Friday I saw Sierra and her dad along with Cameron and his dad up with Brighton School. Congratulations also to Max and Nick in their snowboard competition as well.
